The Summer Picnic Dress

March 31, 2014

My first-born is now three years old. When I stop to think about it, I am blown away at how quickly time flies.

I decided this year that I would start making clothes for my girls, and especially for their birthday. Since my second’s birthday is next month, I need to get sewing

Well, I have never sewn a garment or a dress before (and that home ec story doesn’t count because I don’t remember much!). After browsing The Cottage Mama’s blog a bit, I found the Summer Picnic Dress. I met Lindsay last year and she was so sweet and friendly. (I have her book and I am going to sew a bunch of pieces from it next.)

Anyway, I am so pretty happy with how the dress turned out, considering it was my first time doing it! My daughter was pretty thrilled:

A woman had given my mom the fabric at least 13 years ago, and I’m pretty sure it was in her collection much longer than that! It’s also made an appearance in a couple of other projects I have. I have a little bit left, so we’ll see where it ends up!

On the Sewing Table

It’s been a bit messy, a bit crazy around here. I’ve been doing a ton of sewing on the dining table and working on three quilts, a skirt, and a dress that I recently completed.

The photo above was taken the week before last, and while the table was temporarily cleared for company, it will be chaos once again.

While I would love to have a dedicated sewing space like I did at our last house, we haven’t figured out an idea place for me to sew. I’ve been moved to the formal dining space. It’s nice to sometimes cut fabric and keep an eye on my little ones, but at the same time there is a lot of, “No! Don’t touch!” and seeing the mess fly everywhere.
