Cheerio Quilt (from Thimble Blossoms)

September 2, 2015

I’m excited to share my first finished quilt of 2015! I finished the Cheerio quilt last month. It was a pattern available in a previous issue of Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine and is now available through Thimble Blossoms.DSC_2471

In case you’re wondering why this quilt looks sort of familiar, it’s because it’s the leftover scraps from my Fresh Quilt! The fabric is Kate Spain’s Daydream collection.

I decided to go ahead and use almost every piece of scrap I had, including the little triangles. I randomly pieced them together, along with a scrappy border. I really love how the back turned out, though I did get a few comments asking why I would spend so much time on the back when no one would ever see it.DSC_2457

The short answer is that I really do not like holding onto scraps! All the little pieces make me feel messy and I worry about how to store them. I piece them onto the backs of quilts for my own peace of mind!

Though, truth be told, I almost lost my mind a few times piecing the back because some of the scraps got pretty small!DSC_2459

I ended up gifting this quilt to my sister when she came to visit from Hong Kong. I think I have gifter’s remorse in that I wish I kept it for myself! Ha! Oh well, there’s always another quilt…

Moda Love Layer Cake Quilt

October 30, 2014

This quilt is simple to make with beautiful results. Sometimes, all I want to do is to create something quickly and enjoy it!

I spotted the pattern and now look forward to making it one of these days. I think the throw size would make a great gift too.

Superstar Quilt

October 26, 2014

Elizabeth Hartman is one of my favorite quilters. I loved her first book, The Practical Guide to Patchwork: New Basics for the Modern Quiltmaker and made one of my most favorite quilts from it. (Yeah, I’m still not over it because I talk about it all the time!)

One of the next projects I would like to make is the Superstar quilt. At one point I had all the fabric picked out, but now I’m waiting to find the next fabric line that really makes my heart go pitter-patter with this pattern.

In the February issue of American Patchwork & Quilting, I picked it up digitally and fell in love with the Perfect Union Quilt.

The bright colors immediately pulled me in and I love how it looks by playing on the solids and patterns of the fabrics.

If you’ve been following my wishlist this month and noticed a pattern: Yes, I have an obsession with samplers. I want to make a Spell it with Moda quilt.

I think it would look awesome in one of my children’s rooms, or maybe using it as a quilt rug for a playroom.

Moda Modern Building Blocks

I don’t normally work with solids, but when I spotted this on Instagram I really would love to get my hands on the Modern Building Blocks kit.

I love everything about this. It calls out the sampler lover in me and I think it would be both fun and a good challenge. More about the quilt here on Google.

You can find the pattern here. This quilt would make an excellent gift, except by the time I finished I would want to keep it for myself!

Camera Quilt

I spotted the Aperture Quilt in Quilt Lab-The Creative Side of Science by Alexandra Winston and loved it. It is an homage to my previous life as a professional wedding photographer.aperturequilt

I would change up the fabric a bit and I like the idea of challenging myself with different way of cutting and sewing the circles together. There’s a cool one from Crafty Fox here.
